RG 74-35 consists of records of the Michigan Dept. of Attorney General, Public Service Division for the years 1952-1969. Series 1 consists of records relating to gas supply invesitigation (1956-1957). The records generated by this investigation show, for the principal public utilities, sales statistics, production, purchases, number of customers, and gas use by month. Series 2 consists of records relating to the Michigan Consolidated Gas Company (1952-1969). The material in this series serves to give a good picture of the constitution of a gas company in the early 1950's.

In 1931 the city of Mount Pleasant (Mich.) signed a gas franchise contract with the Gas Corp. of Michigan, which was eventually succeeded by the MCGC. In 1948, MCGC raised rates for gas. The city of Mount Pleasant protested and sued MCGC in Michigan circuit and supreme courts. Prof. Walter S. Ryder collected the materials. From the description of Collection, 1930-1955.
